From reading the article of cultural diversity in Australia, it is very evident that Australia takes pride in being one of the most diverse countries in the world. They thrive off of migrant experiences, which ultimately brings different traditions, languages, religions, etc. to the country. This diversity would not be possible without the eagerness of the Australian Government to have migrants and refugees participate in the community as soon as possible. They do this by having settlement services that allow this participation to happen that make the migrants and refugees feel more comfortable and welcome. Imagine what kind of diversity would be evident in Australia if the Australian government didn’t do this for these people. I personally think that diversity would be almost nonexistent because these people would struggle and feel the need to be like everyone else in order to engage in the community and ultimately sacrifice their backgrounds to meet their needs at that time. If more countries did this, cultural diversity would be alive and well within those countries. Additionally, from being a United States citizen and attending public school, I have learned so much about the history of our country. If it weren’t for migration to this country by so many different cultures located in other countries, this country would not be what it is today. The United States is a melting pot of cultures and the government has allowed that to happen throughout American history. I could only imagine what America would be like if it weren’t for the different kinds of people like the Italians, Mexicans, Chinese, Polish, Irish, etc.
Although I believe that it is important to have an actively involved governing body helping protect cultural diversity, I can also understand the reason why some may feel that they should not be actively involved. Some countries are not as fortunate as others to have a democracy, where they support and appreciate diversity because it makes countries stronger. Some countries have dictators that can essentially do whatever they want and if not followed then severe repercussions could follow. This could be why so many cultures and groups of people are endangered and could eventually become nonexistent. Even though this may be true, I still feel that governing bodies should be involved because when they are, the possibilities of improving and broadening cultural diversity is endless. Culture brings so many exceptional things to a country and with the right governing bodies, the use of those things can be used to their full potential.
